Passover

16 “Observe the ^(A)month of Abib and keep the Passover to the Lord your God, for ^(B)in the month of Abib the Lord your God brought you out of Egypt by night. ² And you shall offer the Passover sacrifice to the Lord your God, from the flock or ^(C)the herd, ^(D)at the place that the Lord will choose, to make his name dwell there. ³ You shall eat no leavened bread with it. ^(E)Seven days you shall eat it with unleavened bread, the bread of affliction—for you came out of the land of Egypt ^(F)in haste—that all the days of your life you may remember the day when you came out of the land of Egypt. ^4 (G)No leaven shall be seen with you in all your territory for seven days, ^(H)nor shall any of the flesh that you sacrifice on the evening of the first day remain all night until morning. ⁵ You may not offer the Passover sacrifice within any of your towns that the Lord your God is giving you, ⁶ but at the place that the Lord your God will choose, to make his name dwell in it, there you shall offer the Passover sacrifice, in the evening at sunset, at the time you came out of Egypt. ⁷ And you shall cook it and eat it at the place that the Lord your God will choose. And in the morning you shall turn and go to your tents. ⁸ For ^(I)six days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be ^(J)a solemn assembly to the Lord your God. You shall do no work on it.

The Feast of Weeks

^9 (K)“You shall count seven weeks. Begin to count the seven weeks from the time the sickle is first put to the standing grain. ¹⁰ Then you shall keep ^(L)the Feast of Weeks to the Lord your God with ^(M)the tribute of a freewill offering from your hand, which you shall give ^(N)as the Lord your God blesses you. ¹¹ And ^(O)you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, you and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, the Levite who is within your towns, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow who are among you, at the place that the Lord your God will choose, to make his name dwell there. ^12 (P)You shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt; and you shall be careful to observe these statutes.

The Feast of Booths

^13 (Q)“You shall keep the Feast of Booths seven days, when you have gathered in the produce from your threshing floor and your winepress. ^14 (R)You shall rejoice in your feast, you and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, the Levite, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow who are within your towns. ¹⁵ For ^(S)seven days you shall keep the feast to the Lord your God at the place that the Lord will choose, because the Lord your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands, so that you will be altogether joyful.

^16 (T)“Three times a year all your males shall appear before the Lord your God at the place that he will choose: at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, at the Feast of Weeks, and at the Feast of Booths. ^(U)They shall not appear before the Lord empty-handed. ¹⁷ Every man ^(V)shall give as he is able, ^(W)according to the blessing of the Lord your God that he has given you.

Justice

¹⁸ “You shall appoint ^(X)judges and officers in all your towns that the Lord your God is giving you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment. ^19 (Y)You shall not pervert justice. ^(Z)You shall not show partiality, ^(AA)and you shall not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and subverts the cause of the righteous. ²⁰ Justice, and only justice, you shall follow, that you may live and inherit the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

^25 (A)And Barnabas and Saul returned from^[a] Jerusalem when they had completed their service, bringing with them ^(B)John, whose other name was Mark.

Barnabas and Saul Sent Off

13 Now there were in the church at Antioch ^(C)prophets and ^(D)teachers, ^(E)Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger,^[b] Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of ^(F)Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. ² While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, ^(G)the Holy Spirit said, ^(H)“Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul ^(I)for the work to which I have called them.” ³ Then after fasting and ^(J)praying they laid their hands on them and ^(K)sent them off.

Barnabas and Saul on Cyprus

⁴ So, being sent out ^(L)by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. ⁵ When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God ^(M)in the synagogues of the Jews. And they had ^(N)John to ^(O)assist them. ⁶ When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain ^(P)magician, ^(Q)a Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus. ⁷ He was with ^(R)the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. ⁸ But Elymas the ^(S)magician (for that is the meaning of his name) ^(T)opposed them, seeking to turn ^(U)the proconsul away from the faith. ⁹ But Saul, who was also called Paul, ^(V)filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him ¹⁰ and said, “You ^(W)son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and ^(X)villainy, will you not stop ^(Y)making crooked ^(Z)the straight paths of the Lord? ¹¹ And now, behold, ^(AA)the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time.” Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking ^(AB)people to lead him by the hand. ¹² Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at ^(AC)the teaching of the Lord.

Legal Decisions by Priests and Judges

⁸ “If any case arises requiring decision between one kind of homicide and another, one kind of legal right and another, or one kind of assault and another, any case within your towns that is too difficult for you, then you shall arise and go up to ^(A)the place that the Lord your God will choose. ^9 (B)And you shall come to the Levitical priests and to the judge who is in office in those days, and you shall consult them, and ^(C)they shall declare to you the decision. ¹⁰ Then you shall do according to what they declare to you from that place that the Lord will choose. And you shall be careful to do according to all that they direct you. ¹¹ According to the instructions that they give you, and according to the decision which they pronounce to you, you shall do. You shall not turn aside from the verdict that they declare to you, either to the right hand or to the left. ¹² The man who ^(D)acts presumptuously by not obeying the priest ^(E)who stands to minister there before the Lord your God, or the judge, that man shall die. So ^(F)you shall purge the evil from Israel. ¹³ And all the people ^(G)shall hear and fear and not act presumptuously again.

Laws Concerning Israel's Kings

¹⁴ “When you come to the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you possess it and dwell in it and then say, ^(H)‘I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me,’ ¹⁵ you may indeed set a king over you ^(I)whom the Lord your God will choose. One ^(J)from among your brothers you shall set as king over you. You may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother. ¹⁶ Only he must not acquire many ^(K)horses for himself or cause the people ^(L)to return to Egypt in order to acquire many horses, since the Lord has said to you, ^(M)‘You shall never return that way again.’ ¹⁷ And he ^(N)shall not acquire many wives for himself, lest his heart turn away, ^(O)nor shall he acquire for himself excessive silver and gold.

¹⁸ “And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, ^(P)he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law, ^(Q)approved by^[a] the Levitical priests. ¹⁹ And ^(R)it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, ^(S)that he may learn to fear the Lord his God by keeping all the words of this law and these statutes, and doing them, ²⁰ that his heart may not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he ^(T)may not turn aside from the commandment, either to the right hand or to the left, ^(U)so that he may continue long in his kingdom, he and his children, in Israel.

Paul and Barnabas at Antioch in Pisidia

¹³ Now Paul and his companions set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. And ^(A)John left them and returned ^(B)to Jerusalem, ¹⁴ but they went on from Perga and came to Antioch in Pisidia. And ^(C)on the Sabbath day ^(D)they went into the synagogue and sat down. ¹⁵ After ^(E)the reading from ^(F)the Law and the Prophets, ^(G)the rulers of the synagogue sent a message to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any ^(H)word of encouragement for the people, say it.” ¹⁶ So Paul stood up, and ^(I)motioning with his hand said:

“Men of Israel and ^(J)you who fear God, listen. ^17 (K)The God of this people Israel ^(L)chose our fathers and ^(M)made the people great ^(N)during their stay in the land of Egypt, and ^(O)with uplifted arm he led them out of it. ¹⁸ And for about ^(P)forty years ^(Q)he put up with^[a] them in the wilderness. ¹⁹ And ^(R)after destroying ^(S)seven nations in the land of Canaan, ^(T)he gave them their land as an inheritance. ²⁰ All this took about 450 years. And after that ^(U)he gave them judges until ^(V)Samuel the prophet. ²¹ Then ^(W)they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul ^(X)the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. ²² And ^(Y)when he had removed him, ^(Z)he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, ^(AA)‘I have found in David the son of Jesse ^(AB)a man after my heart, ^(AC)who will do all my will.’ ^23 (AD)Of this man's offspring God has brought to Israel ^(AE)a Savior, Jesus, ^(AF)as he promised. ²⁴ Before his coming, ^(AG)John had proclaimed ^(AH)a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. ²⁵ And as John was finishing his course, ^(AI)he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but behold, after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

²⁶ “Brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you ^(AJ)who fear God, to us has been sent ^(AK)the message of ^(AL)this salvation. ²⁷ For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because ^(AM)they did not recognize him nor understand ^(AN)the utterances of the prophets, which are read every Sabbath, ^(AO)fulfilled them by condemning him. ²⁸ And ^(AP)though they found in him no guilt worthy of death, ^(AQ)they asked Pilate to have him executed. ²⁹ And when ^(AR)they had carried out all that was written of him, ^(AS)they took him down from ^(AT)the tree and laid him in a tomb. ³⁰ But ^(AU)God raised him from the dead, ³¹ and for many days ^(AV)he appeared to those ^(AW)who had come up with him ^(AX)from Galilee to Jerusalem, ^(AY)who are now ^(AZ)his witnesses to the people. ³² And we bring you the good news ^(BA)that what God promised to the fathers, ^33 (BB)this he has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus, as also it is written in the second Psalm,

³⁴ And as for the fact that he raised him from the dead, ^(BD)(BE)no more to return to corruption, he has spoken in this way,

³⁵ Therefore he says also in another psalm,

³⁶ For David, after he had ^(BH)served the purpose of God in his own generation, ^(BI)fell asleep and ^(BJ)was laid with his fathers and saw corruption, ³⁷ but he whom ^(BK)God raised up did not see corruption. ³⁸ Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, ^(BL)that through this man ^(BM)forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, ³⁹ and by him ^(BN)everyone who believes is freed^[b] from everything ^(BO)from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses. ⁴⁰ Beware, therefore, lest what is said in the Prophets should come about:

⁴² As they went out, the people begged that these things might be told them the next Sabbath. ⁴³ And after the meeting of the synagogue broke up, many Jews and ^(BQ)devout ^(BR)converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who, as they spoke with them, urged them ^(BS)to continue in ^(BT)the grace of God.
